Another cheek kiss. So close and yet so far away.

 Anyone who hasn't seen this season's episodes or the end of season 8 should stop reading 'cause there be spoilers ahead.

I think I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure this out and i need to hear others opinions. I'm not a writer so excuse me if my train of thought seems a little off.

Has anyone noticed that Gibbs and Abby almost seem to have switched around how they react to each other?

When the show started Abby would flirt with Gibbs. Gibbs would even flirt back at times. I always had the impression that they were attracted to each other but that Abby was a little more physically demonstrative in showing she was interested in him. He did show some interest with all the pecks on the check, the occassional hug, etc.

When he decided to up and quit NCIS and move to Mexico he gave her a kiss that seemed, to me at least, to be intimate. Not getting a father/daughter vibe from that one. I don't know about you guys but I've never had a male relative kiss me on the back of my jaw near my ear. That was strictly boyfriend/husband territory. To me that kiss showed that Gibbs did indeed like Abby in a whole other way.

When he came back they resumed the status quo. A little flirting, eye contact, kisses on the check...you know what i mean. Those little Gabby moments I love so much.

The change that is driving me nuts seems to have started after that little convo in the basement at the end of season 8. Abby asking Gibbs if he loved her like a daughter. What the heck did he say to her?!? Ever since then it seems that Gibbs is the one being more physically demonstrative and Abby seems to be pulling away.

For example, Gibbs goes back to Mexico and hugs, heck, nuzzles her neck before he goes and Abby barely puts her arms around him and has this confused look on her face. Her comments lead me to believe that she is seriously worried about the guy but her actions seem to be restrained.

Again a couple of episodes ago when Gibbs gave out a growl and pulled her into a bear hug. She just sort of stood there. If Gibbs hugged me like that I'd be seriously hugging back.

Yet again with this last episode. Anyone else notice that Gibbs never changed his clothes after the first day of the case. As soon as he realized that Abby was staying in the lab to work on the case he stayed too. That plus his comments to Ducky about getting her back have me believing he really cares for her. The look on his face when Abby said he raised his voice to her were heartbreaking. He looked away, he looked down...he looked so much like a "little boy lost" at that point. He;s hurting because he can't help her///at least that's my take on it.

At the end he walks in and sees her back to her usual self. He compliments her...I swear he was checking her out....another big kiss on the the ear and he puts his arm around her to walk her out. She doesn't put her arm around him, though. They're just hanging at her side. What the heck!!

Am I the only one seeing this? Is her almost aloftness a part of the script...like a lead in to something more or am i just imagining things?
